Overview

Finibanco was formally set up as a Credit Institution in June 1993, but its origins date back to 1989, when its predecessor - Finindústria - Sociedade de Investimentos e Financiamento Industrial, S.A. was founded. Initially focused on Commercial Banking, Finibanco, as the parent company of its financial group, extended its scope of activity to other areas, namely Investment Banking and Asset Management from 1996 onwards, through the setting up of various companies specialized in specific banking business areas, thus guaranteeing in terms of human and material structures an adequate response to the needs of the market. On 27 June, 2001 Finibanco became a holding company, incorporated under the name Finibanco-Holding, SGPS S.A., while at the same time a new Finibanco, S.A. was set up, wholly owned by the Holding, which received from the former the banking business as well as the majority of its assets and liabilities. Finibanco Holding, SGPS S.A. manages the financial participations in the majority of its Associated Companies (only Finibanco Angola is 60% held), all of which make up its current Financial Group. The objective of the Group is to provide a quality service and a vast range of financial products that support the activities of its Affiliated Companies. The Finibanco Group has a vast agency network throughout the entire country, two financial branches abroad, one in Madeira and another in the Cayman Islands, a Bank in Angola and a significant number of instrumental companies that cover the most diverse asset management activities, the provision of complementary financial services in the insurance area, specialized consumer credit and lease purchase financing.
