Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific) 

Despite rates remained fairly flat, the hike of bunker prices made TCE thinner and thinner. In North Pacific a few ships were delayed due to bad weather, but this did not affect freight levels that remained unchanged around $5/mt on the key route West Australia/China. 
The list of ballasters to S Africa and Brazil with ETA January is rather thin, but charterers kept trying to shave a few cents from freight rates and Tubarao/Qingdao was reported fixed at $10.90/mt for beginning of January dates.

Panamax (Atlantic and Pacific)

Last week market levels were seen reducing throughout the week also due to the approaching of holidays and also to reduced demand of tonnage from USG and ECSA. In ECSA a 76,000 dwt was reported fixed at $11,500/d for trip to Skaw-Passero while a 75,000 dwt fixed $9,800/d + $480,000 bb dely aps ECSA for trip to F East. USG area also shown a slight reduction on the levels with Kamsarmax vessel being reported fixed at $14,500/d + $450,000 bb bss aps dely for trip F East via COGH, a 75,000 dwt was also reported fixed for trip via USG to F East at $6,500/d bss retro Rizhao. In Cont a 87,000 dwt fixed trip via Baltic to Med with redely Gib at $19,500/d bss Immingham while a 82,000 dwt fixed bss Brent dely at $13,000/d for 2-3 LL redely PMO-Japan range. Same level of $13,000/d was also fixed bss Gib on a 79,000 dwt for trip via Kamsar to San Ciprian while a 93,000 dwt was reported fixed at $7,500/d for a 2- 3 ll with dely Gib redely Atlantic. In F East levels have also seen a reduction where NoPac RV now being fixed for $7,000/d as reported on a 82,000 dwt bss Longkou dely while a similar size fixed basis Kobe dely trip via Australia to Japan at $6,900/d. A 77,000 dwt was fixed at $8,750/d for trip via Indo to Japan bss Hong Kong dely while on the period front an 82,000 dwt was fixed at $8,100/d bss Tsuneishi dely for 6-9 months.

Handy (Far East/Pacific) 

In the Pacific a slight improvement in rates was registered on larger Supramaxes carrying grains in Australia. A vessel with dely Indonesia and redely S Korea was done at $7,800/d, while another one agreed $7,000/d bss Spore/India. On the other markets, the levels remained quite poor for owners: the standard coal trade from Indo to China dropped to $6,000/d with dely S China and $7,000/d on a boat taken near Spore. Supramax rates from F East to SE Asia remained below $6,000/d and, from the same loading area, a 56,000 dwt got $6,250/d for a trip to MEG. The stronger market in the Atlantic allowed charterers to reduce backhaul rates. An Ultramax was fixed from N China to N Europe at $4,500/d for the first 65 days and $7,500/d for the balance, a Tess-52 delivering EC China was committed for 3 to 5 months period at $6,750/d. A bit better market for Handysizes where a 37,000 size with dely S China was done at $7,250/d for a trip via Australia to EC India, and a 28,000 dwt delivering Spore was fixed around $6,750/d for 2 laden legs redely F East.

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean) 


Rates from N Europe for all sizes were described to remain at similar levels of the previous week, even if a fancy 29,000 dwt delivering at UK was fixed at a very impressive $11,500/d to perform a trip to USEC. A similar trend was seen from the Med, where the spot chartering interest was focused on shipment from B Sea and E Med. From the B Sea, 35,000 vessels agreed rates in the low $8000’s per day for trips to USG or N Europe, while a Handymax got $13,000/d for a trade to Egyptian Med. A Supramax fixed $14,000/d for a trip from Turkey to W Africa and a quite higher $21,750/d was done for a trip from Marmara Sea to the MEG.

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America) 

Supramax rate from Atlantic Americas Coast averaged around levels similar to the previous week. Some charterers starting to save some money compared to the last done, and the first rumor on a decreasing market were heard in the market. A 55,000 dwt fixed a trip from USG to China at $20,750/d, and a similar vessel got $13,500/d plus $300,000 bb on a trip to Nigeria. An Ultramax delivering at Mississippi entrance agreed $14,750/d for 4/6 months period and redelivery WW. A number of Supramaxes delivering S America were fixed to different Mediterranean destinations between $14,000/14,500/d, an Ultramax got $13,500/d plus $250,000 bb for a trip to India/Japan range, and a 55,000 dwt delivering at S Africa fixed a RV with grains via S America around $8,500/d. The general feeling about a further improvement for the Handysize market was confirmed by a 32,000 unit was booked at $10,700/d basis dely W Africa for a trip via S America to MEG with redely S Africa. A 37,000 dwt delivering Brazil was fixed for 4 to 6 months period with Atlantic redely at $10,500/d.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

The increasing trend previously registered, was confirmed also throughout this week. On the first days of the week, a 56,000 dwt agreed $8,000/d from EC India to China, followed by an Ultramax booked to the same direction at $10,500/d from WC India and another Supra delivering Pakistan done at $12,000/d via Iran again to China. An Ultramax delivering India agreed $9,000/d to perform a RV via S Africa, while a 56,000 dwt got $10,500/d for WC India RV via MEG. Korean charterers, on an Ultramax with WC India dely performing a trip via R Sea to S Korea, paid a good $13,250/d, while a 50,000 dwt dely E Africa was booked at $9,250/d for 3 to 5 mos period and a Handysize got $7,750/d for a trip from MEG to Thailand.
